Equipment Agreement Renegotiated
A new laboratory · General chemistry and immunoassay
THE SITUATION
A new laboratory was purchasing general chemistry and immunoassay equipment from a major diagnostics manufacturer under a 72-month agreement. The terms required a $30,000 minimum monthly reagent purchase and a $48,000 annual service fee: heavy fixed cost during startup, when testing volume and revenue are still unpredictable.
WHAT NUCARE DID
nuCARE negotiated directly with the manufacturer, reducing the monthly reagent minimum to $16,000 and eliminating the annual service fee. We also negotiated contract language to protect the client: an early-termination clause, and a provision calculating the reagent minimum on average total reagent spend instead of a minimum for each analyte.
THE OUTCOME
The laboratory’s contractual commitments over the 72-month term fell by $1,296,000: $1,008,000 in reagent minimums and $288,000 in service fees. It gained control over operating expense and the flexibility to exit if the business changed.
CAVEAT
The reagent reduction represents purchasing flexibility, not guaranteed cash savings; actual purchases depend on testing volume.
